NAME: - LYIA WILLHARD

Age: - 20 years old

Brought up by a single mother who was a street mother.

I came to Imani back in 1996 when my mother neglected me and could not cater for my school fees and all basic needs I used to depend on my neighbors, on my way to street to be a street child I meet someone who encouraged me and gave me hope in life through counseling. The lady took me to Imani rehabilitation centre where I got care and protection.

In 2000 I was referred to another family as part of my family in the rural area. I was enrolled in a primary school And secondary school respectively Imara Primary and Racecourse Ronald Ngara High School. When I did my form four I was taken back to Imani and stayed for one year working and trying to save something to cater for my college education.

Year 2011 in the month of January, I joined a college (Kenya institute of science and technology) where am undertaking a course in business management for five years. The savings that I had saved for one year helped in paying the school fees of the first semester and part of 2nd semester.

One year school fees is 120,000/= which is paid in three semesters.

CHRISPINE THAIRU

Age: - 21 years

I joined Imani Children’s Home in 1995, am from a destitute family. I was brought to Imani for care and protection, when my mother ran away leaving me behind to die in a house. Thanks to Imani for giving mi a reason to smile in the community as no one know what I could have been were it not for the support , counseling and encouragements that I have received from Imani family. Imani family referred mi to a very nice family in Nyeri which treated me like their own. I did my K.C.P.E (Kenya certificate in primary education) in Murangara Primary School in 2005 and I got 339 marks which gave mi a ticket to Kamuiru High School, in the year 2009 I sat for my KCSE (Kenya certificate in secondary school) and score a mean grade of B plain. My family could not continue with me so I was returned back to Imani for preparation of college education.

In year 2010 I worked for Imani and I have been saving some money which will help in paying a quarter of my first year school fees. Am aspiring to be a doctor and hence, I have applied for two medical course at the university of Nairobi, bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery and bachelors degree in science nursing, upon admission I prefer doing medicine and surgery.

A bachelor degree in medicine and surgery costs 475,500 Kshs in the first year and 469,500 in the subsequent years, the course takes 5 years. A bachelor’s degree in science nursing costs Kshs.264, 000 in the first year and 259,500 for the subsequent years, it takes 4 years. This entire amount is paid in four quarters per year.

Thanks in advance.

NAIROBI

Dear Sir/Madam,

RE: REQUEST FOR SCHOOL FEES.

It’s with kind heart that I’m writing to express my humble request for assistance to pursue my university education.

I cleared my form four education and attained a mean grade of c+ (C-Plus) since then I have not managed to join campus due to lack of school fees despite the fact that I qualified.

I have been cared, loved and brought up by Imani and I’m glad to be part of this wonderful family that I truly love. Through the heart of Giving back to the community and the principle of open heart that our dear Mum has been teaching all of us, I coordinated the successful Ngong hills tree planting and clean up project where by we managed to plant 10,500 trees and cleaned the area, during the project we managed to mobilize over 18 corporate organization and over 800 participating volunteers drawn from university students, colleges, schools , the community and private participants , currently through the support of Imani family we are working on the Kayole clean up and tree planting campaign which I’m also coordinating.

I have grown aspiring to be a change agent in the community by initiating, coordinating and managing projects that will uplift the community out of poverty and as a result had applied for the bachelors degree course in sociology at the University of Nairobi and got admission No: 5221/2011 which I’m supposed to report on 9th May 2011. The fees are 180.000 KSH a year.

It will be my gratitude if I could get any help to undertake my university studies as this will enable me achieve my goals of transforming the community life and also contribute towards the community social development.

Looking forward for your positive response.

Thanks in advance,

DENNIS KEBORI
